Self-care ideas for summer time

June 23, 2021

Sometimes practicing self-care is easier said than done. Many times, we have good intentions to focus on our own well-being, but aren't sure where to start or what to do.

The first step is understanding exactly what "self-care" means. Self-care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health by taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, particularly during periods of stress. It's important to note that self-care can mean many different things to different people. What might be considered self-care for some, isn't for others.

In fact, some people don't even know where to begin when it comes to self-care. For this reason, we've put together a list of self-care ideas to try out this summer. Enjoy!

  1. Start by making a list of goals or desires for the summer. Make a point to accomplish these goals instead of putting them on the back burner.
  2. Meditate. Wake up early, enjoy the sunrise and clear your mind.
  3. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Try to add fruit to make it more refreshing throughout the day.
  4. Move around, go on a walk or take a scenic hike. Even if you're just venturing around your own neighborhood, enjoy the beauty around you and soak up more of that summer sunshine.
  5. Visit the pool, lake, or water park. Water can be very refreshing, relaxing and a great way to stay cool in the heat.
  6. Take a picnic or eat lunch outside when it's not too hot. Enjoy mindfulness during lunch, instead of scrolling through your phone.
  7. Go out for ice-cream. Get the flavor you want and don't be afraid to ask for an extra scoop!
  8. Dress up when you feel like it. Wear the clothes you love instead of hiding them away for another day.
  9. Make a fun playlist. Memories attach to songs so be sure to listen to the songs during all of the fun you have this summer!
  10. Take a nap or rest when needed. Your body and mind will thank you.
  11. Visit a Farmers Market and bring home some fresh produce to enjoy.
  12. Go on a road trip. Don't put off going somewhere you've always wanted to go. Instead, pack up for the day and go on an adventure.
  13. Try yoga in the sunshine.
  14. Read a good book at the end of the day. Sit outside and let the rustling trees be your background sound.
  15. Go star-gazing with a buddy on a warm summer evening.
  16. Write about your feelings. And, talk about them out loud when you want to. Let yourself feel.
