Self-care ideas for summer time

June 23, 2021

Sometimes practicing self-care is easier said than done. Many times, we have good intentions to focus on our own well-being, but aren't sure where to start or what to do.

The first step is understanding exactly what "self-care" means. Self-care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health by taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, particularly during periods of stress. It's important to note that self-care can mean many different things to different people. What might be considered self-care for some, isn't for others.

In fact, some people don't even know where to begin when it comes to self-care. For this reason, we've put together a list of self-care ideas to try out this summer. Enjoy!

  • Start by making a list of goals or desires for the summer. Make a point to accomplish these goals instead of putting them on the back burner.

  • Meditate. Wake up early, enjoy the sunrise and clear your mind.

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Try to add fruit to make it more refreshing throughout the day.

  • Move around, go on a walk or take a scenic hike. Even if you're just venturing around your own neighborhood, enjoy the beauty around you and soak up more of that summer sunshine.

  • Visit the pool, lake, or water park. Water can be very refreshing, relaxing and a great way to stay cool in the heat.

  • Take a picnic or eat lunch outside when it's not too hot. Enjoy mindfulness during lunch, instead of scrolling through your phone.

  • Go out for ice-cream. Get the flavor you want and don't be afraid to ask for an extra scoop!

  • Dress up when you feel like it. Wear the clothes you love instead of hiding them away for another day.

  • Make a fun playlist. Memories attach to songs so be sure to listen to the songs during all of the fun you have this summer!

  • Take a nap or rest when needed. Your body and mind will thank you.

  • Visit a Farmers Market and bring home some fresh produce to enjoy.

  • Go on a road trip. Don't put off going somewhere you've always wanted to go. Instead, pack up for the day and go on an adventure.

  • Try yoga in the sunshine.

  • Read a good book at the end of the day. Sit outside and let the rustling trees be your background sound.

  • Go star-gazing with a buddy on a warm summer evening.

  • Write about your feelings. And, talk about them out loud when you want to. Let yourself feel.
